SOS!!SOS!!SOS!!

EDITED TO ADD: Thanks for the suggestions for the crib tent. Unfortunately, it appears they don't work for the type of crib we have. We have a sleigh-style crib with rails that are uneven/different heights. The one several people suggested specifically says it doesn't work on that type of crib....... aye yay.....

Oh and did I mention that I don't have the toddler rail yet for the bed??? I thought we had longer before needing to think about this. No telling how long that special order will take!!

Oh my gosh. Of course, it was bound to happen. But, truly, I thought I had longer. So, here it is:

I went to put Gabriella down for her nap today and for whatever reason, she got hysterical. I went ahead and left the room and figured I'd give it a couple of minutes and then go in calm her down and try again if needed. Sometimes she will scream for a minute and then go right into dreamland. Well, not a minute or so after I left, she got even louder and more hysterical so instead of waiting I went in. Well...... I found her on the floor! She wasn't hurt, but scared. Holy cow.... So, I rocked her for a while as she was obviously tired. She was just about asleep and as soon as I put her down, she got hysterical again. I walked out but left the door cracked where I could see her. As soon as I left, she hurled herself up onto the side of the crib. I ran in and got her just before she went over the side. I figured if I could get her to go to sleep, we'd be ok. So, I rocked her again until she was alseep, put her down where she promptly woke up. So, I stood there touching her back for a good 15 minutes without moving a muscle. As long as I was there, she was fine. Can I just say how hard that was???????? My arm fell asleep being over the side of the crib. If I moved, she woke. She finally fell sound asleep and I snuck out. Not 10 minutes later, she woke up screaming and before I could get in the room, she was on the floor again. Keep in mind, this is a child who has been near-perfect in the sleep department up to this point.

What to do??? Seriously, for those that have met her, you know how ACTIVE she is. How will I even keep her in a toddler bed? She will have the room in shambles given the chance. I can't imagine her sleeping if she can escape.

My daughter climbed out of her crib at 15 months. Rather than getting the big girl bed (because she is/was just as active as your girl) we bought a tent for her crib.

Try googling "crib tent"

Hugs to you, mommy. I know too well what you are feeling right now.

Poor baby!!! Maya has tried that but her legs are just too short. At with a toddler bed she wouldn't have far to fall. The tent sounds like a great invention.

SOS is right. I wish I had advice, but Ally just turned 1 so we still have some time until she can get out of the crib. I have heard that pillows on the floor next to the crib means she'll have a safe place to land! And the crib tent sounds like a good idea too. Sorry I can't offer much more than sympathy.

Oh no! I have met miss G. and I can't imagine the little spit fire sleeping in a toddler bed either. I would do the crib tent.

I hope she doesn't tell Cameron how to do that...the boy will be in his crib as long as I can keep him there!

Oh Crap Alleen,

I still put Gia in Nino's crib for most of her naps. At night she won't get out of her toddler bed when I put her in it but during the day she will. We are working on it and I have been using the SuperNanny techniques but I still am weary of it all.

I keep thinking that one day Gia is just going to walk into the room(when she should be in the crib) and say "Hey Mommy". I've been lucky so far but now that I said that it will happen tomorrow.

Good Luck,
Holly

PS. You will sort of have to get used to the destroyed room thing, I have. It happens less and less and time goes on:)

We have a toddler bed for Ella. She'll get out and roam around her room sometimes, but always stays in her room - sometimes I'll find her asleep on the floor!

My girlfriend uses a baby sleep sack on her 2yo. It prevents her from getting her leg over the rail check out www.babyinabag.com

Good luck!

How about the extention rails for the crib I think they have them in the "One Step Up" catalog or try the website.
Please let us all know how it works out, all our little ones won't be far from doing this.

Oh my goodness! I hope you find something that works. Sorry I can't offer any advice -- Cohen thankfully hasn't started climbing yet. :)

ohhhhhhhhhhhhhh.
this is not good news.
Marissa climbed out at about 18 mos...I am not even going to speak of K since if/when she climbs out she WILL NEVER SLEEP AGAIN...

No advice...except if you go to a big girl bed with rails she might feel confined and also like the concept...

Oh my gosh! And they saw boys are more accident prone??!! Not these crazy Guatemalan girls! I think our beds are similar, and I don't think there is any help. She will surely turn into an insomniac with the toddler bed. Good luck!!

I feel for ya girl. My son is on a twin mattress on the floor. This month we will probably put it up on the frame. It is hard to keep them on it for a nap, but you will figure it out.

I guess it was bound to happen and IF Savannah would EVER sleep in a crib, I am sure she would be climbing out.

How about a pack and play? Would she sleep in that? Much harder to climb out, esepcially with socks or feetie pj's.

We have converted Savannah's crib into a toddler bed with bed rails and also have used that in a hotel, but inveitably she ends up in our bed.

Do you have toys in her room? Do you have a baby gate on her room? YOu may just have to put everything up high, take out the toys, and let her roam around her room until she falls asleep.

This ia a very challenging stage. Maybe now it is ok that Savannah never slept in a crib, because she is used to staying in bed. I put a gymnastics mat on the floor though so if there are any falls they are soft.
